Aruba Vacations: What to do in Aruba

Aruba is a unique holiday destination also because its offers a number of different holiday activities, not only because of its famous sunny weather. Whatever you prefer doing on holiday, the chances are there is something for you in Aruba. It’s a great place both for active people and for those who look rather for calmness and serenity. To also provide you with perspectives from other travelers take time to provide us with your personal experiences in Aruba (click here to view our Traveler Forums).

Aruba by the Sea

For those interested in sea activities, there are countless possibilities of spending their time. Boating, sailing, windsurfing, swimming, snorkel or scuba diving and even kite surfing are widely available there. Most holiday resorts offer both the equipment and the instructors for those who would like to learn something new.

Of course there is also something for those who prefer less taxing activities – going fishing or sunbathing on white sand beaches will let you experience the nature just as wind- or kite surfing will do.

Aruba Land Tours

If you’re unaffected by the magic of the sea, you can try land trips. Just go on one of bus or jeep trips to see the stunningly beautiful National Arikok Park or just to go and see the island. California Lighthouse, Alto Vista chapel and Bushiribana gold mill ruins are only a few examples of the treasures Aruba hides from those who don’t want take their eyes off the beaches. Such trips will leave unforgettable memories of places you’ve never seen before. They act also as an antidote for “all-holidays-destinations-are-the-same” sickness. There is no second island like Aruba.

For those interested mostly in calmness and solitude most resorts offer an access to one of the five great world-class golf courses: Tierra del Sol, Aruba Golf Club, Miniature Golf (one of the biggest miniature golf courses in the World), Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort and Aruba Golf and Leisure.

Aruba Nightlife

With such a large number of tourists every year it is next to impossible NOT to experience great nightlife. Nightly entertainments, theme parties and famous theme nights form one of the greatest nightlife experiences in the World. Theme parties are Aruban specialite de la maison. Almost every night you can join a party with such themes as pirate and limbo nights. Another exciting possibility is going to the sunset boat party that ends in a great disco onboard. That’s not something you’d like to miss!

If you’re looking for more than just parties, you can always test your luck in one of famous Aruba casinos scattered through the island. They have surely produced their share of millionaires.

Aruba Weather and Climate

The Aruba weather is almost unbelievable. Constant sunshine, relative lack of cloudy, rainy days and high temperatures makes Aruba one of the best holiday destinations through the World. The sun and small number of rainy days would make Aruba a desert if not for the omnipresence of the Caribbean Sea. The combined result of sunny weather and soothing influence of the Caribbean created a unique climate: hot and sunny, but very, very refreshing.

Aruba Average temperatures

The average daytime temperatures vary between 25°C and 32°C (76°F and 90°F) with an average of 27°C (82°F). Nights are colder, of course, but due to the presence of the sea, they’re not as cold as you may predict. It rarely falls below 20°C at night and the difference between night and daytime temperature is usually less than 4°C.

Rain? What rain?

Average rainfall is less than 20 inches a year and most of it falls in winter. From February to October there is usually less than 10 wet days in a month, and even those “wet days” usually consist of just a passing shower or two. It is next to impossible to go to Aruba for a week and NOT to have at lest five days of sunshine. And going for two weeks and not to have at least a week of sunny weather is statistically can’t happen.

Aruba - No Hurricanes

Despite many people think that the whole Caribbean Sea is a hurricane high-risk zone, it’s not true. Aruba is far away from the hurricane belt and there is virtually no chance of experiencing a hurricane attack. The whole island has been unaffected by hurricanes for decades now and there are no evidences that it should change anytime soon. While some thrill seekers might consider it a fault, for most of us it is certainly good news!

Seasons in Aruba

In Aruba, the differences between the seasons aren’t very visible. Even in the coldest months (January and December), the daytime temperatures are well over 20°C and the number of sunny days per month is still quite high. This makes the island a possible destination even for winter holidays. However the regular tourist season starts in late February and lasts until early November. In fact, it is hard to come to Aruba OFF season – the hotels and restaurants are open the whole year.

Aruba Weather Forecasts

There are many places where you can get Aruba weather forecast. Most of them cover only one of the two Aruba towns (Oranjestad and St. Nicolaas), but the island isn’t big enough for that to make any real difference. However, you should remember that any longer than 5 days weather forecast is very inaccurate, so trying to determine the exact weather for longer periods is only guesswork, even in stable Aruba climate.
